Beginning with the Conference of Jewish Charities in 1923 and going forward to the present day, including the recent merger of UJC MetroWest and the Jewish Federation of Central NJ, the history of 90 years of Jewish life in northern New Jersey and Federation’s enduring mission of helping Jews in need comes to life with vintage photographs, artifacts and memorabilia, and YouTube clips.

GUEST SPEAKER William B. Helmreich,

author of The Enduring Community: The Jews of Newark and MetroWest

William B. Helmreich is professor of sociology at CUNY Graduate Center and City College of New York and served as director of the Center for Jewish Studies at Queens College. He is the author of 11 books, including The World of the Yeshiva: An Intimate Portrait of American Orthodoxy and Against All Odds: Holocaust Survivors and the Successful Lives They Made in America, which won the 1993 National Jewish Book Award.
